Did you know that May is National Get Caught Reading Month? Our Panthers have certainly been rising to the challenge and getting caught reading!
Last week, our amazing Battle of the Books team represented Southwood at the district competition. After months of dedication and reading, they showcased outstanding teamwork and did a phenomenal job in the fast-paced competition!
Then on Friday, our school library reached an exciting milestone by checking out its 10,000th book of the school year!
Way to go, Panthers! Your hard work and love of reading continue to make Southwood shine.
Each finalist will spend a full day meeting with principals, student leaders, staff, union representatives, and district leaders, as well as touring schools and district facilities. The community is invited and encouraged to attend the finalist public forums:

Last Friday, our HERO Team took over the Panther Pride Assembly and did an amazing job! They led the announcements, announced awards, introduced our new Skill of the Month, and even led a fun game for everyone. We are so proud of the leadership and school spirit they showed throughout the assembly. Way to be leaders, HERO Team!
We also want to give a huge shoutout to the Panther Pride Award winners for last month’s skill: Courage! Thank you for showing bravery, and confidence in and out of the classroom. Congratulations to all of our winners!

And, a HUGE thank you to Mr. Whittaker, our amazing music teacher, for putting together such a wonderful show. 🎵
Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to preview the materials and learn about the major topics of instruction for the new Middle School English Language Arts curriculum: https://knowledgematters.org/curriculum/amplify-ela-6-8/

Wishing all of our students, families, and staff a fantastic (and sunny!) weekend ahead!

The assembly was just as fun, with a great choir performance, a glow dance party, and games that had everyone cheering each other on.
Shoutout to our Skill of the Month winners for Cooperation! We love seeing students working together and supporting one another, it makes Southwood such a great place to be!
Thanks for bringing the energy, everyone!
The month of April is School Library Month, and today is Librarian Appreciation Day! ESD libraries are more than a place to check out books - school libraries and their Library and Media educators create a welcoming environment for students to grow, learn, connect, and feel empowered. Please help show appreciation for the school librarians/media specialists and paraeducators across the district this, and every month. And a very special thank you to our very own library and media teachers, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Lucas, who make our library an amazing place to be!

Enumclaw School District Spring Break is April 13 - 17, 2026. All school buildings are closed during that time. The District Office will be closed on Friday, April 17, 2026.

Our Class of 2039 had a big night, testing out a real kindergarten classroom, making new friends, and taking a short ride on the bus!
We loved meeting you all and are so excited to have you at Southwood next fall!

A huge thank you to Mr. Whittaker for putting together such a fantastic show, and to all the families and friends who came out to support our students. Your encouragement means so much!
Between chess club with Mr. Whittaker and Makerspace in the library during makerspace, students were busy thinking, creating, and trying new things. It’s always great to see so many kids engaged and enjoying their time at Southwood in so many different ways!
And don’t forget—our 2nd/3rd grade music concert is tonight at 6 in the gym. We’d love to see you there!
